THE MANAGEMENT OF SECURITY CHALLENGES IN NIGERIA
This Book extensively examines Nigeria’s multifarious security challenges and proffers recommendations for their effective management. The Book recognises the inevitability of conflicts and insecurities in a pluralistic Nation like Nigeria with diverse ethnic, religious, economic, political, social and other interests; but blames the metamorphosis the conflicts into fatal security challenges on te poor management of such conflicts at their early stages of development. The book clearly establishes how poor Conflicts and Security Management led to the political crises of the 1950s and the 1960s, the Civil War of 1967-70, the recurring ethnic and religious crises, the fatal farmers and herders clashes, the inhumane banditry, militancy and insurgency; the “Biafra” secession threat, etc.
The Book exposes the Author’s deep knowledge of the subject, not only as a Management Scholar; but as a person who served for several years an Presidential, State and Local Committees on Boko Haram insurgency, rustling, banditry and other security challenges. Those services enabled him to have direct contacts and discussions with insurgents, bandits and rustlers; and with Security Personnel at low and high levels. As a Senior Member of the Traditional Institution, the Author has the added advantage of obtaining information and data on security challenges from the grass roots, some of which could not be obtained even by security personnel. This Book therefore contains rare, authentic and important information and data on the security challenges bedeviling Nigeria and proffers recommendations on their positive management.
