This Open Letter establishes that, since the colonial amalgamation of religiously and culturally diverse entities to create the Nigerian Nation in 1914, there was relative religious harmony and peace up to the Shari’ah debate at the Constitution Drafting Committee meeting of 1975 where the vogue “Islamising Nigeria” was coined. Since then, every conflict or crisis in Nigeria was given religious colouration with resultant killings of thousands of people, displacement of millions of others and the destruction of public and private properties worth trillions of Naira. The Letter carries information that clearly shows the magnitude of the human and material loses as a result of these avoidable conflicts and crises. In addition, the Letter shows the unsavoury actions of some devilish Religious Leaders who ignite and fuel religious fires; and the efforts of angelic Religious Leaders who quench the fires.
This Open Letter also clearly establishes the closeness and similarities between Islam and Christianity, the types of which are not found between any of the other largest Religions of the World. The Letter gives details of Islam’s and Christianity’s very similar Laws, rules and regulations on social, economic, administrative and other worldly affairs and how to conduct these affairs peacefully and harmoniously. The Letter therefore calls on Nigerian Christians and Muslims, who make up over 90% of the Nigerian population, to please Unite and Islamise and Christianise Nigeria by practicing the virtues of love, forgiveness, peace, unity, progress, honesty, sincerity, justice, fairness, understanding, respect and all other beautiful attributes of Christian and Islamic Religions. By so doing, the myriad of security challenges that are threatening Nigeria’s corporate existence today would become history and Nigeria would achieve the much needed peace and stability with resultant socio-economic development. Nigerian Muslims and Christians would then be proud of having made Islam and Christianity the Great Religions that they are!
